Hypnotherapy for depression

Research has shown that certain types of therapy, including hypnotherapy and hypnosis, are more effective in treating depression.

If you have been feeling down, your thoughts can easily turn to whether you are depressed or not. If you are feeling so down that you need to do something about it, that is enough.

Common symptoms of depression:

  • Exhaustion on waking
  • Disrupted sleep
  • Early morning waking and difficulty getting back to sleep
  • Doing less of what you used to enjoy
  • Difficulty concentrating during the day
  • Improved energy as the day goes on
  • Anxious worrying and intrusive upsetting thoughts
  • Becoming emotional or upset for no particular reason
  • Shortness of temper, or irritability

Not all people have all of these, and some have different signs, but if you are depressed, at least some of these will probably ring true with you.

Research has shown that certain types of therapy, including hypnotherapy and hypnosis, are more effective in treating depression, whilst others may actually prolong the period of depression.

People born since 1945 are ten times more likely to suffer depression than those born earlier. Besides being a startling increase this also shows that the cause of depression is not usually biological or genetic – human biology cannot change in such a short time.

Feeling depressed may be a response to certain changes or events in life, or to certain needs not being met. In modern society our sense of community has greatly diminished, and this along with other factors, such as the breakdown of the extended family have led to higher rates of depression. Sometimes people experience a depressed mood even though they seem to have everything in life.

Depression can be tough, but depression can be overcome through understanding how depression operates and taking the steps to being free from depression.
