We all recognise the feelings..shortness of breath, increased heart rate, sweaty palms, a churning feeling in the stomach, among others.

However in today's modern world, the situations that cause us anxiety are very different: Financial worries, exam nerves, certain social situations for example. Yet, our body still reacts in the same way as if it was faced with a more primeval threat. Now, those same responses, so beneficial in facing a short term threat, can actually become harmful - reducing our immune response, digestive system and leading to a permanent feeling that 'something bad is going to happen'.
