What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is natural state of mind similar to the dream state (REM). We all experience this state several times every day. For example, all drivers will have experienced setting out for a familiar destination and suddenly arriving having barely noticed the drive at all.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is completely safe and used in the NHS by GPs, dentists, surgeons, cancer departments, IBS treatment to name a few.According to the Health Education Authority:
'Research shows that there is more scientific evidence for hypnotherapy
than any other complementary therapy.'
Will you take control of my mind?
No. That is a myth; hypnotherapy is all about you having more control of your own mind. Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes, if you want to be hypnotised you can be. Going into hypnosis and self-hypnosis are very useful skills that can be learnt and improved upon. Will I lose control?
No, you remain completely in control and you can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time. Can I be made to do anything against my will?
No, you are aware of yourself at all times. You are not asleep or unconscious at any time. You cannot accept any suggestion that you disagree with. Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No, this is one of the many myths surrounding hypnosis. You can come out of hypnosis any time you wish. Will I reveal anything I don't want to in hypnosis?
No, you are not talking during the hypnosis. I do not use hypnosis to go back in your past and look for memories or dig around for more answers. What happens in a session?
In a session I will establish what change you would like and what has stopped you achieving this so far. We will agree on a goal for the session. In the second half of the session, hypnosis will be used to achieve this change. I may also suggest other tasks for you to adopt after the session. Are the sessions confidential?
